Canada’s justice minister says impaired drivers will soon confront stiffer fines, increased jail time and mandatory roadside tests when new rules kick in next week.
Speaking in Toronto Friday, Rob Nicholson says drivers suspected of being great will no longer be able to refuse roadside sobriety tests. Police be possible to also take suspected drug-impaired drivers to the police station for a more intensifying test or give a blood, animal-water or saliva sample.
Nicholson says impaired drivers will face a least part $1,000 slender for a first offence and up to a month in jail if they’re caught a second time.
He says the government is furthermore closing “one of the great loopholes” by fabrication it harder for drivers to challenge breathalyzer tests in court.
The new law comes into effect next Wednesday.
